How We... February Edition

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! Today I'm linking up with Mix and Match Mama blog and A little Bit of Everything Blog for their "How We....Wednesdays!" series. I didn't participate in January, but I'm giving February a try. Today we're discussing How we care for ourselves.




How I care for myself...

Well, since having Liam, I feel like I have done much less of this, but I'm trying to take time here and there to do something for myself. I am pretty good about having regular doctor check ups, teeth cleanings, etc., so I'm going to focus on things I do to treat myself, or make myself feel good.

One thing that I do pretty often (once or twice a week) is treat myself to a latte. I don't drink coffee daily, but I do love a good latte. I'm a coffee snob... I don't really care to drink plain coffee, I like the foo foo stuff, haha. Today I treated myself for Valentine's Day to a Cherry Mocha from Starbucks... YUM! (this pic is from Monday).

Earlier this week I treated myself to a latte, and YUM! It was so good! 

Another thing that I love to do in the summertime is get a pedicure. I don't like to spend the money to get pedicures often, but once or twice a year, I'll get one, and I love it. Here's a pic of my smom and I getting pedis while I was pregnant with baby Liam. The guy who did my pedi must've felt bad for me... my feet were SO SWOLLEN and he gave me the longest foot massage. It was amazing... and a few weeks later when I went into labor, the nurses commented on my pretty toes, haha. That's the last pedi I've gotten, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to ask for one for my birthday in May.
This was such a fun girls day with my Smom! (My brother and I love our step-mom so much, and are also super close with our mom, so we call our mom, "mom, and our step-mom "smom".) 

One thing that I have been doing lately is being much better about taking vitamins ( I kinda fell off that wagon when Liam was born), and I drink Emergen-C once a day. Usually in the morning while I pump, but sometimes while I'm at work. I feel like the sickness is never ending this winter, so all the extra Vitamin C is necessary. I probably won't keep drinking Emergen-C forever, but for now, if it helps fight sickness, I'll take it!

Since becoming a mama, I sleep much less, and last night I was so exhausted... I've been fighting the flu and now this sinus thing, and Lee's had two days recently where he's been out of town, so I've been up a lot with the baby... so last night I told my hubs that if the house is on fire to wake me up, but otherwise... let. me. sleep. and you know what?? He did!! I slept from about 9pm to 5am this morning with one wake up to pump, and I felt amazing this morning!! Getting a little extra sleep here and there is probably the best thing I can do for myself as far a self care goes.

Lastly, eating right... Anyone who knows me, knows that I love all the junk food... candy specifically is my weakness, but fried foods, cheese, pizza... love them all! Lately when I know Lee is going to be working late or if he isn't going to be home for dinner, I eat out. It's just easier with a baby at home to not have to cook, BUT I've been making much wiser choices... salads and wraps from McAlister's, Subway, and the cafeteria at my work have become my jam, and I can notice a huge difference with how I feel, and the biggest difference I notice is the amount of breast milk I produce when I'm eating well. So even though eating out isn't always healthy, I'm trying to make healthier food choices, all around.

So those are all things I do or TRY to do to take care of myself, or even just treat myself! I can't wait to read everyone else's posts on self care. Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!
